 Curriculum Description                Curriculum


The Commercial Refrigeration Technology curriculum is designed to prepare technicians with the knowledge and skills necessary for the installation, troubleshooting, and repair of refrigeration equipment found in commercial environments.  Students will work on commercial refrigeration systems including walk-in units, reach-in refrigerators and freezers, ice machines, and other refrigeration equipment found in restaurants, supermarkets, convenience markets, and food processing plants.

Students may pursue an Associate of Applied Science Degree, Diploma, and or Certificate.

Graduates should be able to assist in the start-up, preventive maintenance, service, repair, and/or installation of commercial refrigeration equipment and systems. 

Students in the two year associate degree program participate in MCC's Co-op program that combines classroom learning experiences with one or more semesters of employment while completing their degrees.  The professional work experience awards academic credit toward graduation and is closely related to the student's academic program of study.  Co-op education is considered an integral part of the learning process as it enhances the student's academic knowledge, personal development, and professional development.

Martin's Commercial Refrigeration Technology program has two classrooms for training, both located in Building 3 on the college's Williamston Campus.  One classroom is used to teach students everything from basic refrigeration to totally energy-controlled systems. The other classroom has more than 4,000 square feet of training space and is used as laboratory where students work on variety of refrigeration systems, from dormitory refrigerators to a computerized walk-in cooler and freezer.

Martin Community College, with it's picturesque 65 acre main campus located in Williamston, the center of northeastern North Carolina, provides a convenient setting for commuting students.  For information about the college and directions, click here.

The college does not provide dormitories but referral housing is available through Student Services.  Students who have come to MCC from across the state and country have found affordable rooms, apartments, trailers, and houses to rent within driving distance to the college.  For more information on available rental property contact the Office of Student Services.
