 Curriculum Description                Curriculum


The Computer Information Technology curriculum is designed to prepare graduates for employment with organizations that use computers to process, manage, and communicate information. This is a flexible program, designed to meet business and community information systems needs. Course work includes computer systems terminology and operations, logic, operating systems, database, data communications/networking, and related business topics. Studies will provide experience for students to implement, support, and customize industry-standard information systems.

The Web Technologies curriculum is designed to prepare graduates for employment with organizations that use computers to disseminate information via the Internet internally, externally, and/or globally. The curriculum will prepare students to create and implement these services.  Course work includes computer and Internet terminology and operations, logic, operating systems, database and data communications/ networking, and related topics. Studies will provide opportunities for students to implement, support, and customize industry-standard Internet technologies.

Students may pursue an Associates Degree, Diploma, and or Certificate.

Graduates from either program should qualify for a wide variety of computer-related, entry-level positions that provide opportunities for advancement with increasing experience and ongoing training. Duties may include systems maintenance and troubleshooting, support and training, web page design, internet and intranet administrators, internet application specialists, and internet technicians.  Government institutions, industries, and other organizations employ individuals who possess the skills taught in both the Computer Information and Web Technology curriculum.

In 1995, the Kappa Eta Chapter of Alpha Beta Gamma (ABG), and International Business Honor Society, was established at MCC to recognize academic excellence among students in business curricula and provide students professional and career development opportunities. Since its inception, the number of students inducted into the local chapter of ABG has grown steadily. Members are active in supporting both the college and community activities. In recent years, members have supported the Ronald McDonald House of Eastern North Carolina, Toys for Tots, Coats for Kids, March of Dimes, U.S. troops overseas, and the college's Student Government Association.  The chapter also attends national and international conventions.  For more information on the Kappa Eta Chapter of Alpha Beta Gamma click here.

The college has several smart classrooms equipped with the latest multimedia and computer technology. The computers in these classrooms and labs are connected to the internet via a dedicated T1 line, and have CD ROM burners and USB connections for easy student access for USB storage flash drives.

A CISCO lab is available to Computer Information and Web Technology students, and is equipped with ten 2600 CISCO routers, four 800 CISCO routers, two Adtran T1 TSU's, an Adtran Atlas 500, four CISCO catalyst switches, and eleven student workstations, running both Windows XP with wireless and 100 Base T NIC's.  This technology gives students the capability to simulate T1, ISDN, and Frame-Relay WAN and LAN connections, . 

Martin Community College, with it's picturesque 65 acre main campus located in Williamston, the center of northeastern North Carolina, provides a convenient setting for commuting students.  For information about the college and directions, click here.
