The Cosmetology curriculum is designed to provide competence-based knowledge, scientific/artistic principles, and hands-on fundamentals associated with the hairdressing industry. The curriculum provides a simulated salon environment which enables students to develop manipulative skills. Course work includes instruction in all phases of professional imaging, hair design, chemical processes, skin care, nail care, multicultural practices, business/computer principles, product knowledge, and other selected topics. To be eligible for MCC graduation, the student must have satisfactorily completed all course requirements. Students completing all of the courses without absences will earn the required 1500 contact hours to sit for the State Board of Cosmetic Arts examination. In the event a student earns less than 1500 contact hours required by the State Board of Cosmetic Arts in these courses due to absences, he/she may enroll in additional electives to earn the 1500 contact hours. Students may pursue an Associates Degree, Diploma, and or Certificate program. Instructor Certificates are also offered in Cosmetology, Esthetics, and Manicuring. Go to the Martin Community College 2006-08 Catalog for complete program requirements and information. |
