High school students 16 years or older may be admitted to appropriate courses at Martin Community College under the following conditions:

Special credit students must officially apply for admission. This classification is designed for students who enroll in curriculum classes without declaring a major program of study. Special credit students will be permitted to earn a maximum of 18 credit hours before fulfilling all admission requirements (take placement tests and have transcript(s) submitted). Special credit students wishing to enroll in English or math courses must take the appropriate placement tests before registering in order to be placed in the appropriate level courses. Testing may be waived for students who can be placed in the appropriate courses by documenting previous college credit. If special credit students select majors, applicable credits earned as special credit students will be applied toward their course requirements for graduation. NOTE: Special credit students are not automatically enrolled as auditing a course. Therefore, special credit students desiring to audit should inform their advisor of their plans to audit a course(s) at the time of registration. |

Martin Community College operates on the semester system. All students must officially register and pay fees during the pre-registration period or registration period scheduled at the beginning of each semester. Students are eligible to register after their files are complete with the necessary admission data. Students who apply late and are in the process of completing admission requirements at the time they report for registration will be tested and/or allowed to register for their first semester without meeting all admission requirements. However, it will be necessary for new students, other than special credit students, to meet all admission requirements before registering for their second semester of enrollment. Pre-registration and registration dates are listed in the Academic Calendar. |

Any changes in schedule involving entrance into classes must be made or adjusted during the first five school days of the semester. Students wishing to drop classes or withdraw from school should complete the official forms by the end of the eleventh week of the semester, or its equivalent during an abbreviated session, as published in the Academic Calendar in order that they not receive a grade of F for the course or courses. In making either of the above changes, students should complete the following steps:
Students who are compelled to withdraw due to extenuating circumstances after the eleventh-week deadline may request a hearing to see if their case merits special consideration. (See Due Process Hearing.) |

Students who wish to audit a course must officially register for that course. Auditors do not receive credit. Even though it is not required, auditors are encouraged to attend classes regularly, participate in class discussions, and take all examinations. Tuition for auditors is the same as that for credit students. A grade of "AU" with no credit hours or quality points is recorded on the student's record. The decision to register as an auditor, or for credit, must be made by the end of the ADD period as published in the Academic Calendar and clearly noted on the Student Class Schedule Form or Registration Change Form. Audited hours cannot be used in calculating the amount of financial aid (Pell Grants, DVA, etc.) which students receive. NOTE: Students may not audit a course more than two times. |
