Martin Community College Police Academy Scholarships Thomas Lewis Memorial Fund Scholarship is available to one Martin Community College Police Academy cadet candidate per year. It is a competitive scholarship and is designed to pay for college related expenses. The Thomas C. Lewis Memorial Scholarship Fund amount is $1,000.00. If the perspective applicant is awarded this scholarship, upon graduation the award recipient agrees to work at least 2 years in a Bertie County Law Enforcement Agency. However, if there are no law enforcement positions available in Bertie County, the award recipient must work in law enforcement for 2 years within the state of North Carolina. If for any reason an award recipient drops out of the Basic Law Enforcement Training Program and/or does not work at least 2 years with a law enforcement agency upon graduation from the program, then the award recipient is required to refund the $1,000.00 memorial scholarship grant back to the Thomas C. Lewis Memorial Scholarship Fund within 2 years. The award recipient agrees to sign an agreement between the award recipient and the chairman of the Thomas C. Lewis Memorial Fund Scholarship Committee regarding this guideline in front of a notary public. Completed applications are to be returned to Mr. Larry O.
