Campus Safety and Crime Awareness on Campus

It is the mission of the College and the Division of Administrative Services to provide a safe and secure educational environment for all faculty, staff, students, and visitors at all MCC campus locations.

It shall be the policy of Martin Community College to require all persons to report all known and suspected criminal activities and other emergencies that occur on campus to the Dean of Administrative Services or to the switchboard (252-792-1521).  All criminal incidents that occur at MCC sponsored activities off-campus shall be reported to the appropriate law enforcement agency having jurisdiction.  The Dean of Administrative Services shall then be notified of the incident by the college representative present at the activity. The Dean will investigate and document all incidents that are reported.

Martin Community College endorses the North Carolina General Statute 14-269.2 "WEAPONS ON CAMPUS."  It is prohibited to possess or carry weapons as defined by G.S. 12-269.2 on the campus or any property controlled by the college or to activities associated with the College.  This includes hunting rifles left in vehicles in the parking lots. Exceptions are noted in G.S. 14-269.2 (Copies of this statute are available in the Office of Administrative Services).  Criminal as well as College administrative charges may be imposed for violations of this policy.  See Code of Conduct and other student regulations.

Access to MCC facilities is from 7:00 am until 10:00 pm during college hours with key control allowing access to sensitive areas after hours building entry.

The College through an agreement with the local Sheriff's Office provides regular duty Sheriff Deputies during regular business hours as campus security.  However, the College does not guarantee that law enforcement is on campus at any given time.  The Dean of Administrative Services  is charged with the responsibility for maintaining a safe environment. The College receives support from local and state agencies having jurisdiction.

Crime awareness is addressed at Faculty/Staff Orientation annually and each semester at Student Orientation.  Additionally, periodic crime awareness and prevention programs are sponsored by the Student Government Association.  Student and staff must recognize that they must take individual steps to protect themselves from becoming the victim of a crime and that working together as a campus community in the prevention of crime is essential.

Martin Community College promotes a drug and alcohol free campus and supports this nationwide movement.  The College also maintains a no-smoking policy inside all college buildings, but smoking is allowed outside any campus buildings or on the campus grounds.  MCC is committed to maintaining a drug and alcohol free campus for all employees and students.  For more information regarding alcohol and drug abuse, go to
