Military & Veterans Education Benefits


Martin Community College proudly supports veterans, active-duty service members, and their families. The college is approved by the North Carolina State Approving Agency for the enrollment of eligible veterans and beneficiaries under federal Veterans Education Programs.

VA School Certifying Official

A dedicated School Certifying Official (SCO) at MCC works directly with student veterans and dependents to certify enrollment, answer benefit questions, and ensure smooth processing of VA education benefits.

Eligibility & Application

Eligible benefits depend on your service history and dependency status. Common programs include:

Post-9/11 GI Bill

Chapter 33 — Education benefits for veterans who served on active duty after September 10, 2001.

Montgomery GI Bill — Active Duty

Chapter 30 — Educational assistance program for veterans with active military service.

Montgomery GI Bill — Selected Reserve

Chapter 1606 — Education benefits for members of the Selected Reserve.

Survivors' and Dependents' Educational Assistance

DEA, Chapter 35 — Education benefits for spouses and children of qualifying veterans.

Vocational Rehabilitation & Employment

Chapter 31 — Career counseling, training, and employment services for service-connected disabilities.

To apply for VA education benefits, visit the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and complete the appropriate application form. Once approved, submit your Certificate of Eligibility to the MCC Financial Aid Office.

Tuition Assistance

Active-duty military members may be eligible for Tuition Assistance (TA) through their service branch. MCC accepts TA for eligible curriculum and continuing education courses.

In-State Tuition Eligibility

Under federal and state law, qualifying veterans and their dependents may receive in-state tuition rates regardless of residency. Provide your DD-214 or certification to the Admissions or Financial Aid Office.
