About Title IX
Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 is the federal law that protects students and employees from sex-based discrimination at any school that receives federal funding — including Martin Community College.
"No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance."
MCC's Commitment
Martin Community College prohibits discrimination based on sex in admissions, employment, and educational programs. For purposes of this policy, "sex" includes sex stereotypes, sex characteristics, pregnancy or related conditions, sexual orientation, and gender identity.
Prohibited Conduct
MCC prohibits the following sex-based misconduct:
- Sex-based harassment
- Sexual assault
- Dating and domestic violence
- Stalking
- Quid pro quo harassment
- Hostile environment harassment
- Disparate treatment and disparate impact
No Retaliation
MCC explicitly prohibits retaliation against individuals who report violations or participate in investigations. Retaliation is itself a violation of MCC policy.
