MCC Solar Technician Training Certification Program: May 12 - June 28, 2025.

Are you interested in a career in the fast-growing Clean Energy sector?

Martin Community College will be offering a Solar Technician Training Certification program. There are a limited number of seats available: 15 person capacity.

Application Deadline: May 12, 2025 @ 5:30 p.m.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years old by the end of the program.
  • Must have earned a high school diploma or the equivalency by the end of the program.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.
  • Must be able to work in a rigorous, physical environment that includes lifting over 25 pounds, walking, standing, stooping, and bending over for a period of time in the natural environment to include grassy and dusty fields.
  • Must be willing and able to commit to the entire 7-week program, attending each scheduled class day and time, and completing all online class components.

The 2025 MCC Summer Solar Training Certification program will run Mondays and Tuesdays from 5:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. with the final two days being Friday, June 27th from 5:30 - 9:30 p.m. and Saturday, June 28th from 8:00 - 5:00 p.m. with an online component required as well. Access to a free computer lab to complete online work will be provided during college operational hours.

Tuition will be $180 per participant. Course materials and supplies are covered through the STEPS4Growth Clean Energy Program and/or secondary partner funds.

Participants must commit to attending and fully participating every day. A participant who misses more than 10 hours due to tardiness and/or absences may be dismissed from the program.

The 7-week intensive program is designed to provide the foundational training for a person to enter the solar workforce. Participants will engage in foundational training with a focus on hands-on experience in a controlled lab. Throughout the 7-weeks, participants will engage with a career specialist to develop a resume and strengthen interpersonal workplace skills as well as meet employers looking to hire skilled workers.

What is STEPS4Growth?

STEPS4Growth is a federally funded grant program through the Department of Commerce. North Carolina Agricultural and Technical University is the principle entity for the grant. The grant partners NC A&T with 16 colleges and universities as well as over 40 clean energy industry partners.

The STEPS4Growth program is intended to deliver training in four sectors of the clean energy economy: Energy efficiency, electrical vehicles, renewable energy, and green building construction. Graduates of the program may enter the workforce in one of many clean energy jogs or continue their schooling.
